Pitaya - Dragon Fruit

I used to have an aim to try all the types of fish that were on a drawing in one of my mothers cook books, an annotated illustration of fishmongers slab, but I have nearly completed that mission, so now I'm onto fruit.

Towards my fruit mission got one of these fab pink fruits in Tescos last week. It was £1.99, which is quite expensive really. I chopped it in half and ate it with a spoon, it tasted like kiwi with a bit of pineapple flavour, but more crunchy than kiwi. The pips are small and crunchy like the ones in a Kiwi. It should be eaten chilled for improved flavour, its low in calories, high in fibre and a good source of antioxidants and vitamins. It was very beautiful though, the pink is an eye popping contrast to the white flesh, black pips and green bits sticking off the skin.

My next aim is to get myself a custard apple. Maybe someone could do posters for children, with gaps for stickers of all the food you have tried, one for veg, one for fruit, one for fish... I would quite like one of those, like an I-Spy book, but more I-Eat.
